Bluebell Season...

It's that time of year again, where the blossom is out on the slopes
and ghost wood is looking rather splendid with it's carpet of blue.

If you can, I'd strongly suggest you take a walk around there asap -
it really is a lovely sight.

The slopes have a smattering of buttercups, however, the display of yellow
doesn't quite match the performance of previous years. Maybe next year...?

New Signs...

In a bid to get the message across
that dog fouling and littering isn't acceptable
we've now got some additional signs for
Greenstead Slopes.

I've just been for a walk around the area and I have to say it's a beautiful place to be, especially at this time of year, and it's such a shame that a few irresponsible people choose to spoil it for everyone else.
I saw a pair of stunning jays swooping across the slopes - they were magnificent (unfortunately I didn't manage to capture them on my camera but trust me, they were amazing!) In and around the woods is an absolute haven for wildlife and it's vital that we do everything we can to keep it that way. I saw 3 types of butterflies; comma, large white and tortoiseshell, dozens of ladybirds and several species of bees. Obviously, the trees were full of a vast variety of birds, from tiny little finches to chunky-looking pigeons.
The slopes themselves are currently covered in daisies (is it just me, or are daisies looking bigger this year?!)
If you'd like to get involved in helping us, in whatever capacity you feel able, please email us at keepthegreenclean@gmail.com This project relies heavily on volunteers, without whom this entire area would soon become another urban victim of fly tippers and vandals. Please help us to Keep the Green Clean!

War on Dogs' Mess...

This article appeared in the Colchester Gazette
on  Monday 30th March 2015.

"A MUSICAL about the importance of clearing up dog mess is to tour Colchester primary schools as part of a new council clampdown on dog fouling.

Poo the Musical may even see Colchester Council wardens taking leading roles as part of We’re Watching You, its latest anti-dog fouling blitz.

The show will be launched at the end of April and focus on schools close to places with particular dog fouling problems, such as Greenstead, Mersea and Monkwick."
